The war allowed women to move out of low paying jobs and perform patriotic duties that were highly skilled and dangerous, such as sorting ammunition. After the war, these women would create vibrant businesses on their own. ONE NIGHT IN MARCH tells the story of a historic college basketball game that captured the national imagination, influenced a state and helped redefine a sport. Interviews, rare footage and archival photos transport viewers back to a tumultuous time in United States history, just as the Civil Rights movement began gaining momentum throughout the South. In the late 1950s and early '60s, Mississippi State University's powerhouse basketball program earned several conference titles and national rankings. Despite their success, the Bulldogs could not play in the NCAA national championship due to an unwritten rule prohibiting all- white Mississippi collegiate athletic teams from competing against integrated teams. Mississippi State's president, its head basketball coach and their players ultimately risked their safety and their futures by defying this rule not to mention the governor and state legislature in pursuit of a national championship. This award-winning documentary recounts the 1962-1963 season and the events leading up to the team eventually playing in the tournament against the integrated Loyola University (Chicago) club. They didn't give up and added on windows, propellers, and rudders to their submarine and pretended to explore the ocean using their imagination.
Elmo, Mia, Charlie, James, and Baby Bear are playing out the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. When Mia says she wants to play Goldilocks, James says she can't because Mia doesn't look like Goldilocks. Mia is not wearing a dress, doesn't have blonde hair, and doesn't have the same skin color as Goldilocks. Mia explains that she should get to play Goldilocks; the color of her hair and skin shouldn't matter. James thinks Charlie should play Goldilocks since she looks more like her. Nina helps James realize that the best part of acting out a story is that you can be anyone you want to be, no matter the color of their skin or how they look. James apologizes to Mia and Mia thanks her friends for being upstanders with her.

Using a 16x20 vertical stretched canvas and acrylic medium. Starts with pre-sketch and then begins scumbling with his #10 bristle brush. The painting is an impressionistic, loose technique: creating a suggestion versus the close-up details. Next step is creation of soft distant trees shapes to push trees in background (depth). Jerry uses script brush to lightly add collection of trees in background. To add contrast, Jerry uses #4 or #6 bristle along w/a grayish green to create cedar trees. Then with #4 bristle using rolling circles to add the rolling mist.
