On this edition of "Arkansas Week" we turn our focus to autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects how a person perceives the world, communicates, and interacts with others. This program provides information on understanding what autism is, recognizing the early signs, finding resources and support, and how Arkansas schools and communities are helping autistic students. We also hear from a recent college graduate who is on the autism spectrum. Host Chris Kane is joined by Jayne Bellando, PhD, a pediatric psychologist and professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and co-director of Community Based Autism Liaison and Treatment Project (CoBALT); Dianna Varady, project director of Arkansas Autism Resource and Outreach Center; Jessica Saum, collaboration and inclusion coordinator with the Special Education Office of Cabot Public Schools; Patricia Smith, Ed.D., Dean of the Honors College and Learning Communities at the University of Central Arkansas; and Ethan Smith of Conway.
