Instruments for measuring time are introduced as is the concept of "reading" a clock. Telling time and counting minutes or hours helps to give meaning to the number system and represents an important life skill.

Journey to the Wild West on today's episode of Travel Thru History! Take a peek behind the curtain of the most entertaining city in the world. It's a place carved out of the Mojave Desert; a place we've come to know as Las Vegas. While the city is known for its endless entertainment options we'll take a look into the intriguing roots that were much different from what Las Vegas is today. We get things rolling by visiting the first permanent structure that was built in the valley. It was a small adobe Mormon Fort that was constructed by Mormon Missionaries. We'll learn how this became an essential crossroad for travelers. We'll blast our way into the 1940's and 50's as we visit the National Atomic Testing museum to learn about how the desert outside of Vegas was used for testing America's secret nuclear weapons. Next we visit the Neon Museum Boneyard, the final resting place for those large neon signs used to light up Las Vegas skyline. Put aside your previous notions of Las Vegas because we're going to prove that there is so much more to Las Vegas than rolling dice.

This episode opens with he uplands of Chiang Mai and the river delta around Bangkok. Lord Edward Davenport a.k.a. 'Fast Eddie' is said to have made 34.5 million through his various frauds, with as many as 51 victims. After being convicted of tax offenses in 1990, he started on a career as a property developer. He was the "ringmaster" of a series of advance-fee fraud schemes that defrauded dozens of individuals out of millions of dollars. He was arrested and convicted in September 2011 along with five other defendants, receiving a jail sentence of seven years and eight months.
