Kanzi's family has moved from Egypt to America, and on her first day in a new school, what she wants more than anything is to fit in. Maybe that's why she forgets to take the kofta sandwich her father has made for her lunch, but that backfires when Mama shows up at school with the sandwich. Mama wears a hijab and calls her daughter Habibti (dear one). When she leaves, the teasing starts. That night, Kanzi wraps herself in the beautiful Arabic quilt her teita (grandma) in Cairo gave her and writes a poem in Arabic about the quilt. The next day her teacher sees the poem and gets the entire class excited about creating a "quilt" (a paper collage) of student names in Arabic. In the end, Kanzi's most treasured reminder of her old home provides a pathway for acceptance in her new one.
In the 1930s most girls were happy playing with dolls. But one girl, Betty Skelton, liked playing with airplanes, watching them fly around outside, and even flying airplanes herself! She lived for an adventure - in the air, the water, and on land - and nothing could stop her, especially not being a girl. When Betty Skelton was young there weren't many women flying airplanes or racing cars, but she wouldn't let that stop her. She was always ready to take on a challenge, and she loved to have fun. Betty rode motorcycles, raced cars, jumped out of planes, and flew jets, helicopters, gliders, and blimps. And by the time she was an adult, Betty was known in the press as the 'First Lady of Firsts!'

We are shedding light on the importance of fathers and father figures in the family structure. Fatherhood is a cornerstone of family life and society, playing a vital role in the development and well-being of children. Their presence and active involvement contribute to a child's emotional, cognitive, and social growth. Research shows that children with involved fathers tend to perform better academically, have better emotional and psychological well-being, and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. Becoming an engaged dad has benefits for fathers, too: engaged dads set goals and achieve greater success, healthy habits become more important, and self-esteem increases as dads see their value. The year 1950 was a pivotal year for innovations in air travel, marking the start of the Jet age after the invention of the jet engine by Frank Whittle some nine years earlier. Airlines began to spring up everywhere, catering to the demands of passengers wanting to go just about anywhere, but the flights were domestic only at the time. Pre-war travel was sold as a luxury experience afforded only by the rich, but post war, the emphasis was on comfort and customer service for both the rich and middle class. However air travel was still out of reach for those on a low income. Speed was the key, getting passengers from New York to London or Paris in six and a half to seven hours was the various airlines' biggest coup.
After winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in "The Aviator," Australian actress Cate Blanchett has continued to juggle her busy acting career by looking after her three sons with her husband, playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton, as well as the role of co-artistic director of the Sydney theatre company. In this biographical profile, we are taken back to the birth of her third child as she explains how she fits everything in even with a baby on the way and actually enjoys being pulled in all different directions. She admits her family helps takes the pressure off during awards' time, because she can just sit back and enjoy being nominated, knowing winning is not the "be all and end all." We also see her regal, almost ethereal looks have served her well as she has played the role of a queen many times, in films such as "Elizabeth" and "Elizabeth, the Golden Age," where she played Queen Elizabeth I; and Lady Galadriel of Lothlorien in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
