Read for the Record is an international campaign designed by Jumpstart to get thousands of children reading the same book on the same day. Broward's Read for the Record serves as the annual kick- off of our Campaign to ensure that all children can read on grade level by third grade. We use this day to unite thousands of children and volunteers to read the same book on the same day, all in support of literacy and early learning. On January 22, 2008, the entertainment world was rocked by news that one of its brightest young stars had unexpectedly died. Heath Ledger had passed away in his hotel room, leaving behind a beautiful daughter, a legion of fans, and an award-winning performance as The Joker in "Batman - The Dark Knight." Heath Andrew Ledger was born on April 4, 1979, in Perth, Australia. Thanks to his talent and good looks, Ledger secured roles in popular Australian soap programs, but soon moved to feature films. Determined to steer away from pin-up boy roles, he accepted roles in "Monsters Ball" and "Brokeback Mountain" to gain credibility as an actor, yet maintained his and his growing family's privacy by shying away from excessive media exposure. Respected among his peers and loved by fans the world over, the legacy of Heath Ledger will endure through his films, his daughter, and his memory.
Increasing passenger loads created greater demand on the world's most popular air lines, especially across the Atlantic. Traditionally, regulators had insisted that all passenger aircraft be powered by at least three engines, but the development of more sophisticated airplanes eventually made twin-engine, long-distance travel feasible. A new standard was introduced, known as Extended Range Twin-engine Operation, or ETOP. It allowed twin-engine aircraft to fly long distance routes if they complied with certain techinical specifications and sufficient diversion options in case of emergency.
Cameron Diaz was thrown into the spotlight at the age of 16, when working as a fashion model she graced the covers of seventeen magazines in two years. At 22 she auditioned for and won a role in "The Mask" with Jim Carrey. Then, proving she was no one-hit wonder, appeared in ten movies over the next four years, including "Feeling Minnesota" with Keanu Reeves, "There's Something about Mary" and "My Best Friend's Wedding". In 2000 she became the second woman ever to receive a 20-million dollar salary, starring in the big screen adaptation of the 70's TV hit "Charlie's Angels," which also starred Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. We also discover how she loved getting the opportunity to be the voice of Princess Fiona in the "Shrek" movies.
