Discusses Alexander the Great, the influence of Hippodamus of Miletus in the planning of Greek and Roman cities, and the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Explains that Pergamum, the second major Hellenistic city in Ionia, revolutionized the art of writing with the invention of parchment and possessed one of the largest libraries in the ancient world. Chronicles how German archaeologist Carl Humann found Pergamum being used as a quarry, excavated it and how the altar, statues and friezes were sent to Berlin. Uses three dimensional graphics to illustrate the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Leptis Magna and the Altar of Zeus complex at Pergamum.
