# 4018 Airing 4/6 2025 Dick Armey: From Economist to Congressman. Joining Host Dennis McCuistion is Dick Armey, PhD, Former House Majority Leader, author of Leader, his autobiography. He talks about his past, how he went from working on telephone poles to Congress. It was a life-changing decision. He was repairing lines on a pole , 30 feet off the ground in a sleet storm. It was 30 degrees below zero. He said never again. He was not going to do this then rest of his life. It prompted him to go to college where he studied economics. A book on Microeconomics by Richard Leski set his course. Another standout in his life was Adam Smith?s, A Wealth of Nations. Smith, a creator of discipline in economics, said that the wealth of a nation is the productivity of its people. The book talks about a concept- the Invisible Hand of the market. The concept: in a world of free transactions, bi lateral exchanges there aren?t losers. Nobody gives up the wealth they have for something else unless they believe they?re going to win by it, In a world of free exchange people make their way and they are guided as if by an invisible hand. They proser only by serving the needs of other people. We show a clip from a prior program Armey was on with us in which Dennis asked him, ?Can you run and win and keep your integrity?. Armey answered with a resounding yes.
