After observing the spittle bug a bit more closely, they realize it uses its body like a straw to blow lots of small bubbles, so the kids imitate the spittle bug by blowing lots and lots of little bubbles in a pile, and it works. Their very own bubble house! The Syrup Tree - The kids are helping Farmer Bear as she makes her famous maple syrup by collecting tree sap and boiling it until it's syrupy, then pouring it into bottles. There's one problem though, there's a lot of bottles to fill and she only has one ladle. Inspired by how tree sap delivers nutrients to the entire tree, Elinor and her friends make the perfect delivery system that resembles branches on a tree that distributes the syrup to multiple bottles. Christmas - The Hebrides

Duration: 0:57:08

Everyone Romesh has ever met has told him how amazing the Scottish islands are - but nobody he knows has actually ever been there. Now, in a year when travel abroad has been all but forbidden, he is heading to the Hebrides to find out if you can really have a proper adventure so close to home, spending a week visiting the isles of Skye, Harris and Lewis. Guiding him through the journey is Donald Macsween, or Sweeney to his friends, a local crofter from the far north of Lewis - a place that lies as far north as Greenland. During their trip, Sweeney shows Romesh the spectacular rugged beauty of the islands and what at first glance looks like Caribbean sandy beaches - only utterly freezing. Rom tries his hand at the Highland Games and does his best to avoid feeling up a sheep's testicles during a day spent on Sweeney's farm. Along the way, there is a trip to the remote island of St Kilda - four hours out across the open Atlantic - and a chaotic afternoon spent with local band Peat and Diesel, the biggest thing to hit the Western Isles for decades. But it is also a trip full of surprises: Rom finds a community that is at times uncomfortable with the sheer number of people now visiting the islands and sees why its people are having to fight so hard to preserve their local culture.

Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby

Ashford Castle, Ireland

Duration: 0:50:54

Monica Galetti and Giles Coren hop across to Ireland to scale the imposing and ancient ramparts of Ashford Castle. Set in 350 acres, it was founded 800 years ago by the Anglo-Norman De Burgo family, and much later became the family home of the Guinness family. With the help of hotel historian Fintan, Giles discovers that the castle has had a rollercoaster journey through the centuries, sporadically reaching moments of real jeopardy, only to be saved by a turn of events or new owners. As recently as 2011, the hotel went into receivership but was bought in the nick of time and, after undergoing a £50 million restoration, has the ambition to be the best hotel in the world. Giles and Monica soon learn that the secrets of the castle's success are the people who work there and the hotel's strong, long-running community ties. The hotel swarms with local family members co-working, some of whom have ancestors who served here too. They are given a crash course by estate manager Thomas in how to greet guests with Irish charm. They both take up their posts with gusto and have varying degrees of success with gatehouse-to-lobby communications. Thomas also deploys Giles and Monica in the clay-pigeon shooting range, where they clean guns, stack clays and take potshots for themselves. Monica adds some new hotel strings to her hospitality bow by wrangling the hotel's falcons (part of the on-site school of falconry), assisting a hotel supplier and local oyster farmer, as well as accompanying hotel forager Brian to a secret location to track down pepper dulse for the kitchen. Meanwhile, Giles crashes his way through silver service in the George V restaurant, taking comfort from maitre d' Martin's assurance that his charm makes up for his lack of table skills. Although charm doesn't help Giles pass the four-poster bed-making test in housekeeping, he does impress a colleague with his prowess at vacuuming the intricate and expensive fabric wallpaper adorning the castle's bedroom walls.

The Search for God

Duration: 0:57:38

The search for God is perhaps the oldest of all spiritual quests. While the Abrahamic faiths place the concept of "God" as an entity separate from and above man, indigenous peoples tend to understand God or "Creator" as an integral, indivisible aspect of life, or nature. Some non-theistic faiths, such as Buddhism, focus not on a deity, but on a transcendent quality or attribute that the Buddha attained, such as compassion or enlightenment. This program brings together two teachers from different faiths that have devoted their lives and teachings to the concept of "God" or "ultimate reality". Dr. Jacob Needleman is an author and professor of Philosophy, who meets for the first time, Pir Zia Inayat-Khan, a scholar and teacher of Islam and Sufism in the lineage of his father, Pir Vilayat Khan and his grandfather, Hazrat Inayat Khan.

Stories to Remember

Duration: 0:58:09

Life's three fundamental questions: Who are we? Where did we come from? and Where are we going? have often been approached through philosophy or science. Yet for millennia, for human beings everywhere, these same questions have been posed and explored through the power of story. From different cultures come those stories we tend to remember, the stories that connect us, not just with others, but with that which gives our lives meaning. This unique program brings together two guests that use the power of story and storytelling as a means of remembering - Kay Olan a renowned storyteller from the Mohawk nation in upstate New York, and Orland Bishop, a mentor and community organizer in Los Angeles working with members of the LA gangs known as the Crips and the Bloods, while wielding the powerful weapons of myth, power and story.
