Joyce's story is heard by all the party, including her strange brother Leopold, the impeccable hostess Rowena Drake, her bookish son Edmund and the local Reverend Cottrell. Miss Whittaker, the church organist, and Frances Drake, Rowena's feisty daughter, are dismissive of her story but later that evening Joyce is found drowned in an apple-bobbing bucket in the library. It appears that any one of the guests could have slipped out in the dark during the snapdragon game and drowned her. Hercule Poirot arrives in Woodleigh Common at the request of his friend Ariadne to investigate the murder. Though local Inspector Raglan dismisses Joyce's claim and even her step-mother Mrs Reynolds admits her daughter was a liar, Poirot is convinced Joyce's story has some truth to it. When he seeks out the local gossip, charwoman Mrs Goodbody, Poirot discovers that there have been a number of suspicious deaths in the village in recent years which Joyce could have witnessed: a drowned school teacher, a stabbed solicitor's clerk and the passing of a rich old lady. Mrs Goodbody is convinced that old curses still haunt the village, as is the affable gardener, Michael Garfield. But while Poirot pieces together the facts, another child is found drowned in the river. Could a forged codicil, a missing au pair and a secret love affair be the key to solving the crime? Can Poirot act in time to save Judith's ethereal daughter Miranda when he realises she is in danger? Ariadne Oliver attends a Hallowe'en Party in Woodleigh Common where a girl boasts of having witnessed a murder years before. When the girl is found drowned in an apple-bobbing bucket later that evening, Poirot arrives to investigate. He uncovers a series of mysterious deaths in the village that Joyce could have witnessed.

World War II exacted a heavy toll on the people of Wiltz, Luxembourg, nearly destroying the small town. Occupied by German forces for four years, the town was subject to the whims of Nazi leadership: streets were renamed, the native language was banned, religious freedoms were curtailed, and Saint Nicolas Day was outlawed. The documentary THE AMERICAN SAINT NICK chronicles a day at the height of the war when the battle-weary 28th Infantry Division of the American Army returned hope and joy to the children and people of this war-torn town. An emotional and heartfelt story, THE AMERICAN SAINT NICK illustrates how American soldiers and residents of the hamlet were able to bond over a moment in time, creating a tradition that continues to this day. Clay artist Susan Garson creates fanciful Chanukah menorahs. George Vanderbilt's opulent turn-of-the-century Christmas is recreated at the Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina. Daring chefs make lavish gingerbread houses for the competition at Grove Park Inn. Navidad is celebrated in San Antonio with religious processions, tamales and Kathleen Trenchard's sparkling luminarias. Garcia Art Glass makes colorful ornaments, and Veronica Castillo creates a traditional Mexican Tree of Life.
As Europe passed A.D. 1000, its growing prosperity was reflected in soaring Gothic cathedrals graced with colorful altarpieces, lacy stonework, and radiant stained glass. Experience the enticing city at Italy's center and its unique craftsmanship preserved for generations. A pipe organ maker invites Alessandra to his workshop in Trevi where he is cutting a mouthpiece by hand for a Renaissance style wall organ in his family's tradition, then on to Assisi where he is working on an organ restoration. While there, viewers experience a festival carried on since the Middle Ages to welcome the return of spring. Less known to tourists, La Scarzuola is an architectural wonderland by architect Tommaso Buzzi, whose nephew has given new life to this magical place. In Perugia, Alessandra meets a mother and daughter working side by side as the fourth and fifth generation of stained-glass artisans using Renaissance techniques in a castle. A bike ride to Corciano brings Alessandra to the home of a man who embodies the spirit of the series - a doctor who runs an agriturismo on weekends where he cooks and serves the dishes of his childhood to guests - and is also an accomplished sculptor.
