Between 1970 and 1983, the Carpenters were awarded 10 gold singles and 9 gold albums, many of which also achieved multi-platinum status. They won Grammy Awards as Best New Artist and Best Contemporary Vocal group in 1970 and for Album of the Year in 1971. That same year, Karen and Richard hosted the NBC-TV summer series, "Make Your Own Kind of Music" and later starred in a series of specials on ABC-TV into the 1980s. Their soundtrack recording of "Bless the Beasts and Children" was nominated for an Academy Award, and they performed it at the Oscar telecast in 1972. From 1970 to 1981, the Carpenters consistently were represented on the Billboard charts with 17 of their singles in the Pop Top 20, including three #1 songs and six songs at #2 in addition to 17 songs hitting #1 on the Easy Listening chart. The Carpenters became the top American recording act of the 1970s and have sold over 100 million recordings worldwide. THE CARPENTERS: CLOSE TO YOU features interviews with Richard Carpenter in addition to the group's musicians, famous friends and colleagues, particularly those who helped them achieve stardom, including Herb Alpert, Paul Williams, Burt Bacharach and Petula Clark. Tamir is leaving for robotics camp and needs to find a way to keep the garden watered while he's away. First, Slimey tries pouring a bucket of water from a helicopter, but he can only pour a little at a time. Then, Tamir comes up with the idea of putting watering cans on a clothesline but can't think of a way to fill them back up with water. A porcupine walks by and accidentally sits on a water bottle. That gives Tamir the idea to make a sprinkler with a bottle, hose, and some tape. But the sprinkler can't be moved around! Just then, Tamir gets another idea and asks the porcupine to sit on an old hose to poke holes and places the hose through the planters to make a drip irrigation system. It works! Tamir didn't give up and now the flowers, fruits, and veggies in the community garden can have plenty of sunlight, soil, and water.

Visiting Toruń we'll begin with a stroll through the Old Market Square, which holds numerous monuments, witnesses of the city's former glory and power. We'll also stop in for a visit to the Toruń gingerbread factory - the Kopernik Confectionary Factory - to discover the secrets of the city's famous sweets, a more than 700-year-old tradition! Our day will also include a tasting at one of the city's modern restaurants where we'll learn about and sample the region's culinary character both past and present.

For the first episode, we meet Kuroda Yukiko, one of Japan's leading kintsugi artisans. Kintsugi is a technique for repairing ware by gluing broken parts with lacquer and painting gold or silver powder over it. In Western cultures, ware is repaired by trying to conceal the broken parts as much as possible to return the piece to its original state. However, kintsugi does the exact opposite by making the broken parts stand out and endowing a work with newfound beauty. It is said that the kintsugi technique originated in the Muromachi period around the 15th century. Kuroda's works, which continue to make use of traditional techniques, are garnering attention from across the world. Come witness Kuroda's precise technique and passion for kintsugi.
