Born and raised into a secular East German family, Jan gained early a deep appreciation for nature and all its wonders. After joining youth politics, he became a militant environmentalist intent on saving the planet. Fervent zeal turns to hopelessness when he realises the sheer impossibility of achieving his goal. Meeting some Christians reminds him at first of all the wrongs done by believers in the name of religion, but gradually prejudice gives way to appreciation.
