En la primera década del siglo veinte se levantó en la iglesia adventista una herejía que la sacudió como un terremoto. Elena White se refirió a esta herejía peligrosísima como el 'Alfa de la apostasía' y prometió que poco antes de cerrarse la puerta de la gracia se levantaría una herejía similar que denominó 'la Omega'. En los últimos años han surgido algunos en la iglesia que promueven una espiritualidad mística que es mucho más sigilosa y peligrosa que el Alfa.
