In part 1 of Ken Burns' biographical portrait of Thomas Jefferson, Jefferson's beginnings in Virginia are detailed from his education at William & Mary, the building of Monticello, to his marriage and children. Jefferson is called to Philadelphia as a statesman, and to Paris after the American revolution as an official diplomat. In the end, the saucer is fixed, Carrot is rescued, and the solar storm heads in the opposite direction of the Moon. / When a loud thunderstorm hits the neighborhood one evening, the Propulsions are woken up. They gather in the kitchen as the noisy storm rages on, and Jet is too excited to get back to sleep. Carrot, Celery, and Sunspot are sympathetic - they're in the same boat! During the night they all learn about Earth storms as compared to storms on other planets. And then they all try to get Jet to fall back asleep, a seemingly impossible task. Samantha then visits one of her personal favorite tea shops, Harney & Sons in nearby Millerton, and talks with its master tea blender. Visiting Hyde Park, Samantha discusses the accomplishments of Eleanor Roosevelt with a National Park Ranger at Val-Kill, a National Historic Site, and only National Historic Site dedicated to a First Lady. Continuing on, Samantha visits the Barrett Art Center and talks with accomplished artist, Ransome, about his art influence and the importance of his work. Finishing off her trip she visits Innisfree Garden, one of the top 10 gardens in the world and takes in the beautiful views.
