In 2003, Reverend Al Sharpton, civil rights activist and two-time contender for statewide office in New York, tossed his hat into the ring as a candidate for President of the United States. Long considered a controversial and polarizing figure, particularly on matters involving social and economic justice issues, Sharpton engaged in a national campaign which he would later deem an effort to "ensure that the concerns of people of color" would be addressed during the 2004 Presidential contest. Filmmaker Eddie Harris has followed the ebb-and-flow political career of Sharpton over the past decade and intimately captures the emotions, events, and ultimately betrayals, which Sharpton faced before the first ballots were cast in "Slap The Donkey"
