With Lynley still on suspension, Havers is teamed up with the plain speaking and heavily pregnant DI Knight and sent to Kent to investigate a drowning of a free-spirited woman. On discovering she was murdered after a rendezvous with her lover, Knight is confident her jealous and possessive ex-partner must be the culprit. Havers enlists the help of Lynley to investigate other possibilities.
