The three little scientists set out to find out why, and soon learn that Olive's tree has simply entered the final stage of its life cycle. Trees go from a seed, to sprout, to sapling, to full mature tree and finally, to a wildlife tree, which is a tree that has fallen over. Even though the tree has fallen, Olive is comforted to know that it will still be around for a long time, providing a home to many creatures in the forest.

Jerry explains the composition of this beautiful painting and shows the various pieces of reference material which will make up Steps to Nowhere. Using a 16x20 vertical stretched canvas and acrylic medium. Starts with pre-sketch and then begins scumbling with his #10 bristle brush. The painting is an impressionistic, loose technique: creating a suggestion versus the close-up details. Next step is creation of soft distant trees shapes to push trees in background (depth). Jerry uses script brush to lightly add collection of trees in background. To add contrast, Jerry uses #4 or #6 bristle along w/a grayish green to create cedar trees. Then with #4 bristle using rolling circles to add the rolling mist.

He explains how to carefully layer the highlights to create the progression of lighter values. Then shows how to create a very bright white to cap the multi-layered formations. Preceded by the killing of nine black parishioners at Charleston's historic Mother Emanuel AME Church by a white supremacist, the Confederate Battle flag's furling and the days and actions that led to that event could represent the final shots and battles of the American Civil War. Next, Auntie Kayla uses warm water to rinse out the shampoo and puts conditioner to make Gabrielle's hair feel super soft and slippery. Then, a big comb is used to detangle and get out all the knots in Gabrielle's curls. For bath time, Auntie twists her hair up in a shower cap. After rinsing out the hair, it gets detangled one more time. Then she puts avocado oil and the leave-in conditioner to make Gabrielle's hair softer and smoother. Finally, Gabrielle picks out a style for her hair that can do so many different things afro, ponytail, box braids, or afro puffs! Wash Day is really special to Gabrielle and her family.
