The Puca Festival is an ancient observance reborn and the Wexford Festival Opera illustrates Irish's devotion to community. At the Puca Festival Joseph joins the commemoration of the Celtic New Year, Samhain (pronounced Sow-In), which dates back more than 2,500 years. At the Wexford Opera Festival he spotlights the festival's 70 years of featuring unknown national and international composers with the support of more than 400 community volunteers. In between the festivities, Joseph samples a taste of the island in castles, country homes, markets, pubs and restaurants. It's clear that Ireland has much to celebrate - its heritage and culture, its struggles and survival, its scenic beauty and natural attractions - and we're all invited to join in the revelry.

JOURNEYS OF BLACK MATHEMATICIANS is a two-part series that traces the cultural evolution of Black scholars, scientists and educators in the field of mathematics. The films follow the stories of prominent pioneers, illustrating the challenges they faced and how their triumphs are reflected in the experiences of today's mid-career Black mathematicians. Their mathematical descendants, in turn, are contemporary college students and K-12 children across the U.S. who are learning they belong in mathematics and STEM. Featuring more than 50 individuals, the series starts with the first Black Ph.D., Edward Bouchet (Yale, 1876), and W. W. S. Claytor, extraordinary exemplars from the early and mid-20th century who prepared the way for several of the trailblazers highlighted in the series. The role of HBCUs in producing Black mathematicians is a central theme. Sections on Morgan State, Howard University, Spelman College and Morehouse College connect the featured individuals in threads of mentorship stretching back to the 1940s. At every HBCU covered in the program, students stress the role of outstanding teachers who are responsible for advancing the math and science programs at the schools today. The search for ways to bring future generations into the mathematical fold is also an integral theme of the series.

George wants to try and he uses thread, rubber bands, tape and twine to create his own traps. The big test of his web spinning skills, however, comes back at the Park when stormy weather threatens both the Man's newly painted statue and the spider webs that inspired his web building in the first place. Can George find a way to use tarp and trees and become a true web master? EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE: To show that humans often take ideas observed in nature and use them to develop products to meet their needs and wants. The Big Sleepy: Bill and George go fishing on a brisk fall day. Noticing that George is cold, Bill explains that if George were a bear he'd be able to hibernate - and thus skip the cold and sleep through the winter. George thinks this is a great idea! So he prepares for his own hibernation by eating everything in the house and decorating his room to resemble a dark cave to keep out all the light. But why isn't he tired? Maybe he could get to sleep if he could block out the noises, too. George discovers that pillows and extra blankets might be able to muffle animal noises, but what could possibly block out the Man with the Yellow Hat's tuba sound? After Elinor observes a spider in its web and how the wind doesn't seem to affect it at all, she learns things that are wide will catch the wind, but if they have lots of holes like a spider's web, they will not. They try this new idea on their sign and cut holes in it, and it works. Problem solved, and just in time for all the folks to notice the sign and buy Mr. Raccoon's yummy baked treats! The Pokey Plant - It's Plant Day at school and Elinor is super excited to get a beautiful plant to take home. When she gets a cactus, she's a little disappointed at first, but after some careful observations, she and her friends learn lots of cool things about it, like how it grows in the desert, how it doesn't need much water and how the spikes keep it safe. Elinor decides her cactus is the coolest plant ever!
