Isobel Hewitt is an affluent pensioner with a young lover. Duncan Golf is a GP in the Village of Malham Bridge who is rumored to be having an affair. When the corpses of Isobel and Duncan are discovered alongside one another by the river, Barnaby and Troy embark on an investigation which uncovers a deep vein of resentment running through the village.
