A major project of Equal Justice Initiative is to establish historical markers throughout the U.S. that recognize victims of lynching. Equal Justice Initiative recently unveiled the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration in Montgomery, Alabama. The memorial and museum are dedicated to the legacy of enslaved black people, to those terrorized by lynching, and to African Americans humiliated by racial segregation and Jim Crow.
