Meet Bernie Harberts, a North Carolinian who has sailed the world and now travels the state - and wherever Polly the mule takes him - in his hand-built mobile home. Along the way, strangers turn into friends as Bernie and Polly bring out the best in our state on Mule Rider. (2013) There is a new force in stringband music that is reviving the Piedmont musical heritage. Using a variety of traditional old-time instruments, Rhiannon Giddens, Justin Robinson and Dom Flemons form the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Their tutelage under Joe Thompson, said to be the last black traditional string music player, has helped them carry on Piedmont musical traditions. (2010)
