Shad Fishing is an annual rite of Spring passage for anglers in eastern North Carolina as they anticipate the coming of the shad fish from the ocean to the golden waters of the Roanoke, Neuse and Tar Rivers. It's the first fish of the season and a tradition that runs deep for many families. Jimmy Dupree, Jr. was born and raised in Tarboro, NC, and for him, shad fishing has always been a special part of Tarboro culture. It's a tradition Jimmy has passed down to his son Jim and each year after being cooped up all winter, the returning shad give them a reason to emerge and return to the water.
