The Seed of an Idea - Elinor becomes fascinated by the Velcro on Ari's new watch and convinces her friends to help her find out how it works. First, they make a list of what Velcro sticks to and what it doesn't stick to, but they need more observations, so they head out onto the playground. While outside, they observe that Velcro is very similar to a burr seed that is stuck to Ari's shirt, which is no coincidence at all! That's when they learn that the invention of Velcro was based off the burr seed. Nature is full of all sorts of inventive ideas!

Narrated by actor Gary Sinise, LIFELINE: PEARL HARBOR'S UNKNOWN HERO tells the story of how U.S. Navy sailor Joe George became an unlikely hero when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, and how he was recognized with a Bronze Medal for his actions more than 70 years later. A USS Vestal crewman, Joe was not your model navy sailor. He fought both inside and outside the boxing ring, liked his beer a little too much at times, and had a stubborn and defiant streak that often left him at odds with his superior officers and, once in a while, got him thrown in the brig. But on that "Day of Infamy," Joe did something extraordinary. He became one of America's first heroes of WWII. Ignoring a direct order to cut the lines from the USS Vestal, which was moored alongside the burning and sinking USS Arizona, the sailor made a crucial decision that saved six lives and impacted future generations. Joe could see that the crewmen were injured badly, trapped, waving, and pleading for help as fire raged on the Arizona's deck beneath them. He found a weighted heaving line and threw it toward the men, who secured the line. One by one, they began to crawl over to the USS Vestal, hand over hand, and more than 50 feet above the water, feeling the heat from the flames on their skin. More than a thousand Arizona crewmen died during the attack, with only 335 sailors surviving that day. Joe was never recognized for his actions that day, until the men he saved from the USS Arizona (Lauren Bruner and Donald Stratton) took it upon themselves to see he received the award he deserved. With the support of Stratton's son Randy and George's daughter Joe Ann Taylor, the men of the USS Arizona took their mission all the way to the Oval Office, the Pentagon and Capitol Hill. They were determined to complete one final mission as USS Arizona crewmen.

Master bread-maker Steve Sullivan from the Acme Bakery in Berkeley, CA visits Julia Child in her kitchen. Sullivan demonstrates how to make various decorative loaves. He creates a couronne, or crown of pearls. This bread uses three different starters. He also bakes baguettes, wheat stalks and pain fendu. To allow for these decorative breads to expand more readily, Sullivan recommends raising the humidity of the oven by pouring water in pans underneath the baking breads.

To illustrate the aboriginal people's connection, on Manitoulin Island Joseph joins his First Nations guides at a pow wow, on a hike along the Niagara Escarpment, in handcrafting a drum and at an aboriginal feast. He also visits a Roman Catholic church which endeavors to be a gathering place for native and non-native alike by incorporating the symbols, traditions and beliefs of both. On the historic French River he learns that to the French fur traders, voyageurs, its lakes and rivers were highways to prosperity - and to outdoor enthusiasts a never-ending source of pleasure. In the region's largest town, Sudbury, it's clear that to the lumber and mining industries the surrounding trees and rocks are a resource of wealth and riches. With the French River as a magnificent backdrop Joseph meets artists to whom the natural scenery is an inspiration and who capture its dramatic landscape to showcase Canada's natural beauty. Finally, Joseph's journey of discovery reveals that the historic interactions and modern day partnerships formed here between diverse interests speak of a spirit of cooperation that distinguishes Canada. Theirs is indeed a "Canoe Culture" where each respects the talents of the other and strives to pull together for the common good.

Donal visits Aunt Sandra's sweet shop, a family run business where he has some hands-on experience of making their local delicacy "yellowman". Taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, Donal visits Michelin star restaurant "Ox" to sample their refined tasting menu and meet head chef Stephen Toman. Suitably fed and watered, Donal takes a trip to the breathtaking glens of Antrim for a spot of fly fishing with a local guide.
