A stop at one of Diane's favorite souvlaki joints is countered by a visit to one of the city's most cutting-edge restaurants for Greek salad "sorbet" and a stuffed grape leaf that looks like an architect's fantasy. Back in the kitchen, Diane's recipes are decidedly more down to earth, including a traditional Greek salad; homemade street food in the form of a crunchy, irresistible batter-fried cod pita wrap draped in Greek yogurt tartar; and the ultimate Greek classic, avgolemono chicken soup. Experience Athens like never before, through its timeless and groundbreaking cuisine. Greek salad; Crispy cod pita wrap with yogurt tartar sauce; Classic avgolemono chicken soup.

Duration: 0:26:46

Travel is a life-changing experience, though often these changes come when least expected. Joseph heads to the Kingdom of Bhutan, a devout Buddhist country, fully aware of the possibilities for enlightenment that Bhutan offers him and his viewers. His trip through the "Land of the Thunder Dragon" begins in Paro with a conversation with an esteemed Buddhist master and an invitation to watch a local thangka (spiritual art) artist at work. From there he travels to the Bhutan capital of Thimphu where he is confronted by the modern pressures that ancient Bhutan faces as it strives to preserve and promote its cultural heritage, pristine environment and the "Gross National Happiness" of its people. In dzongs and monasteries, in shops and schools, in valleys and on mountaintops, every experience becomes a journey of discovery. And in a country where the traveler is surrounded by prayer - prayer flags, prayer wheels, prayer walls, sacred memorials and historic monasteries - every encounter is a blessing.

Julia Alvarez: A Life Reimagined

Duration: 1:56:46

Julia Alvarez: A Life Reimagined is a documentary film about the life and work of Julia Alvarez, one of America's most celebrated Latina writers. Alvarez burst onto the literary scene in 1991 with her semi-autobiographical novel, How the Garcia Sisters Lost Their Accents, to great acclaim, followed by In the Time of the Butterflies (1994), which raised global awareness about three sisters assassinated by Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo, and was made into a major motion picture. Her most recent novel, Afterlife, explores the universal issues of aging, loss and healing, and joins the debate about Latino immigrants in the United States. Called "a writer of gigantic storytelling talent, and exquisitely composed prose," Alvarez has helped blaze the trail for generations of Latina/o authors helping transform American culture and literature. Now 72 years old, she feels that time is running out to tell all of the stories still within her. The film will explore her childhood in the Dominican Republic, her complex family dynamics, the lifelong impact of their escape from the dictatorship, her feelings of displacement, hybridity and loss - and how she transforms all of this, in a nuanced, complex writing voice - into poetry, essays and novels.
