In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly halted all in-person social activities nationwide, profoundly altering daily life. This disruption coincided with a wave of civil unrest in the United States sparked by the tragic murder of George Floyd during his arrest by Minneapolis police officers on May 25, 2020. Floyd's death ignited widespread protests and demonstrations against systemic racism toward African Americans, reflecting deep-seated societal inequalities. In 2021, the approval of a vaccine by the CDC marked a turning point, allowing the gradual resumption of social activities. Against this backdrop, alumni from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), institutions born out of the denial of education to African Americans in the United States, gathered for a momentous event on the steps of Morningside Park in Harlem. Inspired by the iconic 1958 photograph "A Great Day in Harlem," they came together for a Historic Photograph, symbolizing unity, resilience, and the enduring spirit of community. The gathering not only celebrated the resilience of HBCU alumni but also served as a powerful reminder of their historical role in advancing social justice and equality. The photograph captured this pivotal moment, echoing the ongoing fight for equal rights and opportunities for African Americans in the United States. It stood as a testament to the strength and determination of African Americans in their pursuit of justice and equality throughout history.
