While the veteran unemployment rate has steadily dropped since its all-time high of nearly 12 percent last April, it was still at 4.6 percent in March -- up from 3.7 percent the same time last year. Veteran advocates say it?s hard enough for people to transition out of the military bubble into the civilian job world and shifting to a virtual environment coupled with a lack of consistency adds to the challenge. At the same time, many companies and communities are facing a shortage of high-skilled workers. There are a growing number of initiatives working to bridge the two issues as many workforce development leaders say veterans are a natural fit to help close the skills gap.
