After facing intense prejudice at school from both students and some teachers, August dropped out. However, he continued reading and educating himself independently. He felt that if he could read about it, then he could teach himself anything and accomplish anything. Elvis Presley is an American icon who ushered in a music revolution that triggered a global cultural transformation. In this documentary you see rarely seen footage from concerts and performances that paint the picture of a man who truly arrived before his time. At the height of his music career Elvis was drafted into the U.S. Army, but when he returned two years later, he was an even bigger star even though he had not made a record or a public appearance. To reach an even greater audience, he launched into Hollywood movies. Audiences enthusiastically received Presley, and the films were a great platform to promote his soundtrack albums, but a heavy movie-making schedule and constant touring took its toll on Elvis's health, and he became dependant on prescription medication. Sadly, Elvis Presley died on August 16th, 1977, at just 42 years of age. The world was shocked as Elvis "left the building" for the last time. Thousands of mourners gather at "Graceland" every year on the anniversary to commemorate his death, and his music and persona still inspire artists around the world.
This program presents a biographical profile of Hillary Rodham Clinton prior to her becoming the United States' 67th Secretary of State. As we see, most American First Ladies have been content to stay in the background, but Hillary Rodham Clinton proved to be as ambitious as her husband, former US President Bill Clinton. Known for her deep commitment to social issues, the outspoken, self-proclaimed feminist has never been afraid to make enemies. Her belief in a world-class education for all children, as well as a better, fairer health system, has made her a target for more conservative members of Congress who have gone as far as accusing her of socialism. We see she receives more criticism for her decision to stand by her husband during the Monica Lewinsky scandal; however, Hillary Clinton faced her detractors with her head held high and eventually won the position of Senator of New York in 2001.
