MY MUSIC Presents THE CARPENTERS: CLOSE TO YOU is a music-filled documentary that traces the Carpenters' career through the eyes of Richard Carpenter and the group's friends in the music business, featuring their their top recording hits, including "(They Long to Be) Close to You," "Top of the World," "For All We Know," "Superstar," "Yesterday Once More," "Rainy Days and Mondays" and "We've Only Just Begun." Between 1970 and 1983, the Carpenters were awarded 10 gold singles and 9 gold albums, many of which also achieved multi-platinum status. They won Grammy Awards as Best New Artist and Best Contemporary Vocal group in 1970 and for Album of the Year in 1971. That same year, Karen and Richard hosted the NBC-TV summer series, "Make Your Own Kind of Music" and later starred in a series of specials on ABC-TV into the 1980s. Their soundtrack recording of "Bless the Beasts and Children" was nominated for an Academy Award, and they performed it at the Oscar telecast in 1972. From 1970 to 1981, the Carpenters consistently were represented on the Billboard charts with 17 of their singles in the Pop Top 20, including three #1 songs and six songs at #2 in addition to 17 songs hitting #1 on the Easy Listening chart. The Carpenters became the top American recording act of the 1970s and have sold over 100 million recordings worldwide. PERFECT 36: WHEN WOMEN WON THE VOTE chronicles the dramatic vote to ratify this amendment, and the years of debate about women's suffrage that preceded it. On July 17, 1920, Carrie Chapman Catt, President of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, arrived to spend a few days in Nashville. She was traveling on the heels of Tennessee Governor A.H. Roberts' announcement of a special session of the state legislature, called at the urging of President Woodrow Wilson. One more state needed to ratify the proposed amendment, and that duty rested solely on the shoulders of Tennessee. Catt's few days dragged into weeks at her headquarters in the Hermitage Hotel, where pro- and anti- suffragists continued to clash in what came to be known as the "War of the Roses." Those in favor sported yellow roses, while those against wore red. On the sweltering day of August 18, 1920, the House convened. After two consecutive 48-48 outcomes to table the resolution, it was put to a vote. The votes were coming in neck and neck. At the last minute, 24-year-old freshman representative Harry Burn recalled a letter from his mother received that morning, urging him to, "be a good boy" and grant women the right to vote. In spite of wearing a red rose, Burn swung his vote, making Tennessee the deciding 36th state to enable passage of the 19th Amendment, and thereby granting women the Constitutional right to vote.

Tamir is leaving for robotics camp and needs to find a way to keep the garden watered while he's away. First, Slimey tries pouring a bucket of water from a helicopter, but he can only pour a little at a time. Then, Tamir comes up with the idea of putting watering cans on a clothesline but can't think of a way to fill them back up with water. A porcupine walks by and accidentally sits on a water bottle. That gives Tamir the idea to make a sprinkler with a bottle, hose, and some tape. But the sprinkler can't be moved around! Just then, Tamir gets another idea and asks the porcupine to sit on an old hose to poke holes and places the hose through the planters to make a drip irrigation system. It works! Tamir didn't give up and now the flowers, fruits, and veggies in the community garden can have plenty of sunlight, soil, and water.

Visiting Toruń we'll begin with a stroll through the Old Market Square, which holds numerous monuments, witnesses of the city's former glory and power. We'll also stop in for a visit to the Toruń gingerbread factory - the Kopernik Confectionary Factory - to discover the secrets of the city's famous sweets, a more than 700-year-old tradition! Our day will also include a tasting at one of the city's modern restaurants where we'll learn about and sample the region's culinary character both past and present.
