This episode looks at the beauty of art during the Renaissance, as well as two of its prominent artists: Leonard da Vinci and Michelangelo. Leonardo da Vinci, born April 15, 1452, was an Italian polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer, whose genius, perhaps more than that of any other figure epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal; he has often been described as the archetype of the Renaissance man. Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was an Italian artist famous for his sculptures, paintings, poems, and architecture. His talent was discovered at a young age when he was brought into Lorenzo de'Medici's school of art and the Medici home. He grew to become one of the greatest artists of all time and was largely responsible for the development of the Mannerism movement and was a participating founder of the High Renaissance.
