Towering over all-comers were ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. WINSTON CHURCHILL - PART 1 - "History will be kind to me for I intend to write it" said Winston Churchill, tongue firmly in cheek. And the noted historian was well qualified to do so, winning the Nobel Prize for literature in 1953 for his historical writings. As well as a painter, statesman, orator and strategist, Churchill was Britain's most-loved Prime Minister, leading his nation through the dark days of World War II.
From the time he was a teenager starring in now defunct TV shows "Sweat" and "Roar," co-stars and directors were singing the praises of Australian actor Heath Ledger, citing his maturity and undeniable charisma as reasons why he was destined for something bigger, and they were right. After a stint on "Home and Away," director Gregor Jordan cast him alongside Bryan Brown and Rose Byrne in "Two Hands," which lead to roles in "The Patriot" and the medieval comedy, "A Knight's Tale." Determined to be more than just a Hollywood heartthrob, Ledger set his sights on meatier roles in independent films, such as "Candy," and scored a small part in "The Monster's Ball" with Halle Berry. He met the love of his life, Michelle Williams, with whom he had daughter, Matilda Rose, on the set of "Brokeback Mountain." But it would be his turn as the maniacal and twisted Joker in "The Dark Knight" that would garner him a posthumous Academy Award and be heralded as his greatest career achievement.
